Born in 1812 the 4th child of George and Elizabeth Margrett. He married Elizabeth Cave, from Bath, in 1835, aged 20 and started his married life living in Southgate Street, Gloucester. His wife ran a businesss from home as a stay maker despite her 7 children and between them it must have been a hive of industry and also quite cramped as by 1861 she was employing 3 people and he 14 and living and operating out of 36 Eastgate St. His eldest son Henry was sent to boarding school in Marlborough and then joined him in the business, ultimately moving into the business premises himself by the 1880's. Elizabeth died on 30 October 1876 leaving him a widow but he didnt grieve for long and by 1879 had remarried to Mary Ann Grove from Kidderminster a lady 12 years his junior (maybe someone he met through his son Frederick who was now living in Birmingham). By 1881 he had retired to St Johns and finally died 20 January 1886 his executors being Henry Cave Margrett of 36 Eastgate Street and Edward Margrett of 1 Kings Street Reading (2 of his 6 sons), the value of his estate was proved to be worth £3,426.5/-.
