Born in Aston the son of Frederick Clitherow Margrett and Emma Augusta Ford. Ralph married Mabel Huskinson on 23 February 1907 he was 22 and an electrical engineer, she was 19 the daughter of Henry Paul Huskinson a coach painter and Mary Jane; in 1901 she was living with her parents brother Charles her great aunt Sophie Mitchell and grandmother Harriet Huskinson.

Witnesses were Mary Jane Huskinson (her mother) and Henrietta Spalding.

It appears the couple moved in with her parents. In the 1911 census Mable was living at Woodland Place with her parents and grandmother; she had given birth to 2 babies - Ina May Margrett born December 1908 who died at home (17 Woodland Place) from congenital heart disease, bronchitis and heart failure on 9th March 1909 and an unknown baby - who had subsequently died. She had been married for 4 years. At the time of the death of Ina May Ralph was working as a chauffeur.

Ralph did not appear on the 1911 census and a year later he had a daughter called Marjorie Evelyn Margrett born 11 December 1912 at 18 Sedlecombe Road, Fulham (parents were Ralph Vernon Margrett and Eva Mildred Lee). 1911 Census shows Eva living with her parents

He was on the Midland electoral absent voters register in 1918 and 1919 living at 10 Fairholme Clarence Road (M2/032996, M.S. Sgt., M.T., ASC, 211 Co.

When he went out to fight in WW1 he met a girl (Mathilde) who he fell in love with and although, in 1918, he returned home to Eva (or Mabel) his heart was somewhere else and he eventually left her and returned to France and Mathilde Roussel and a daughter Nelly Born: 21 May 1927.
