Frederick Clitherow Margrett

Born 15 January 1853 ~ Died 1939
Occupation, Manufacturer & Plate Enameller.
Married 1: Emma Augusta Shadwell Hickman ~ 30 June 1873 St Pauls Parish Church, Cheltenham
Married 2: Minnie Rosa Annie Moorman ~ June 1898 in Kings Norton

Born at 2 Southgate Street Gloucester the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Margrett (nee Cave) and the last of 7 children. Both his parents were employers and he must have had a relatively affluent upbringing. When he married Emma Augusta Hickman (in June 1873 aged 22), his father was described as a 'Gentleman' and her father as a farmer so its quite likely that he married beneath him. Witnesses at the wedding were George Bishop Dale and Ellen Dale which was unusual as normally a parent would act as witness; at the time of the marriage they were both living at 1 Regents Terrace St George Street, Cheltenham. He was described as a clerk at the time of both his wedding and the birth of his first son (who appeared just under 8 months later!) although the census returns put him as an apprentice marble maker.

He became a partner in Ford and Margrett who were manufacturers of marble mantle pieces and went on to have another 8 children until Emmas death in Birmingham in 1887 which left him with 4 children under the age of 12 to look after, he therefore employed a 40 year old housekeeper to look after them and 11 years later he took a second wife Minnie Rosa Annie Moorman and had another child Harold. Sadly, although she was quite a bit younger than him she too died and was buried on top of Emma on 9 February 1931.

Towards the end of his life he lived at 48 Clarence Road Moseley followed by 29 Braithwaite Road, Sparkbrook. He finally died in 1939 and was buried at Yardley cemetary 24 February 1839 in the unbricked grave number 51 he had originally purchased for Emma in 1887.
