Henry Cave Margrett
Born c1838 Died: April 6 1906
Occupation: Cabinet Maker / Upholsterer / Commercial Traveller
Married Anne Wheeler December quarter 1859 Gloucester?
Born in Gloucester the eldest son of Thomas Margrett and Elizabeth Cave. Both his parents were employers and he must have had a relatively affluent upbringing. He was at boarding school in Marlborough by 13 and by 1861 was married and working as an Upholsterer in Gloucester for his father which had become Thos. Margrett & son. By 1871 he had moved to Eastgate Street, and was living next door but one to the business separated by the Blue Coat Hospital School. In 1881 he had moved to the business premises, his father having moved out to St Johns after 1861 presumably because the family was much smaller and they didnt need such a large house; his mother died in 1876 followed by his father 10 years later at which stage he appears to have come out of the family business, moved to London and started working as a commercial agent for Birmingham House.
Henry and Ann had 7 children:
Kate Annie 1860-1949, Arthur Wheeler 1862-1928, Alice Maud 1867-1912, Edith Maria 1868-1882, Walter Ernest 1869-12/07/1902 (aged only 32)*, Constance Elizabeth 1870, and Fanny Ellis 21 Oct 1878-3 April 1969. Arthur Wheeler Margrett died on 2 September 1928 leaving a large estate which he shared amoungst his family and various charities, he had 2 children Thomas Arthur m Lilly Lashford and Winifred Adelaide Margrett (who inherited the Warren Estate, Old Berrow Hill, Henley-in-Arden).
* Walter Ernest died on July 12 in West London Hospital the age of 33 from a Haemorrhage rupture of liver received at a time when he collided with a butchers van whilst cycling at Walham Green. The death certificate lists him as an antique furniture dealer - 50, Norray Road Putney (which I assume is his business premises)
